Homewood Lake Tahoe

Overview of Project – Lakefront Remodel

Contemplating a complete tear down and new build initially, this construction project turned into a full interior/exterior remodel that recreated this home as if it was brand new.  Griggs Custom Homes was hired as the General Contractor for this Lake Tahoe lakefront very early on in the design process and assisted with altering the floor plan layout.  By redesigning the plans to accommodate the large family, we were able to keep the original foot print by adding bathrooms, a new screened in sun porch on the top floor, and opening up the great room space for maximum occupants during the busy holiday months.  This home which is situated on the west shore of Lake Tahoe reflects the owner’s Scandinavian heritage with significant inspiration coming from many original antique pieces brought over from Europe. On the lake side of the home, a hand carved Viking stands guard over the home, looming high above the rooftop, gazing out onto the lake for boats on the horizon. The remodel on this home took 12 months of construction from start to finish.

Setting & Environment

This home is a family legacy lakefront nestled in the heavy snow country just south of Homewood Ski Resort.  It has been in the same family since it was built in the 1960’s. This once dark home received a complete overhaul inside-out, with eave modifications to assist in climate control while still allowing ample light throughout.  Special attention was given to the owners heritage and the legacy she wishes to leave to her large family can be found in every room of this lovely home.

Materials Used

Lake Tahoe Builder Griggs Custom Homes used wood flooring throughout, selecting wide plank European White Oak that has been smoked and white washed, the kitchen is a mix of painted Oatmeal on square inset cabinetry with a custom blue painted island recreated to incorporate the colors from her antique Scandinavian hutches and display cases. Countertops of Leather Cosmos and a raised table butcher-block top in the kitchen reflect the natural material choices of the owner’s tastes. Bathrooms playfully mix handmade ceramic tiles with natural marble, travertine, and limestone, and sprinkled throughout the tile work one will find hand-painted artistry on ceramic tiles done by the owner herself. The master bath beams with luxury, decked floor to ceiling in white venation honed marble with small accents of red marble to tie in the beautiful hand painted furniture from the bedroom.
